Before you respond, yes it is. But it’s not catastrophic and I knew this before buying the car. About $500 in replacement BMW metal and some labor will get it back on the road again. Well, off the road and onto a racetrack anyways.
Guessing (based completely off my short interaction with the previous owner) he was trying to do a skid while guzzling a Monster energy drink and texting his baby-mama that he’s going to be late on his support payment this month and next, before tagging a curb with the front-right wheel.
But thanks to him being a total d-bag and bad driver, I got to pickup this 2001 M3 for $5,000. Just needs a little love, some bodywork, suspension, and a rollcage to be a bad-ass GTS3 racecar.
Now, back to work.

There’s a seam right there, so it pulled apart at the spot welds. There are four pieces that need to be cut out and replaced: the top bar (that runs under the top of the fender), the piece right below the rip, the strut tower section (the piece above the rip), and a piece in front (that is fine, but comes with the package and would be best to replace anyways).
The new pieces will be spot-welded back in and should be good to go. I’m having a professional do that, since my welding is shit, and I would like it all properly aligned. I may drill out all the spot welds though.
